Xiaoyu Xu earned a dual-Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics and Financial Statistics from the Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, known as one of the best finance schools in China. During the undergraduate work, Xiaoyu balanced her studies and outreach and community activities. Xiaoyu excellence at modeling won her a prize in the Mathematical Contest in Modeling (MCM/ICM). She also participated in the Students Association as the Chairperson and General Secretary, a role in which she earned an award as “Excellent Student Leader”.

Xiaoyu interned in the investment management department of Ping An Russell Investments Co. Ltd., Shanghai in 2012 where she helped set up models to analyze the risk and profit of short term investments. This experience made Xiaoyu decide that she wanted to work as a risk manager in financial industry, using her skills in model building and quantitative analysis.

To advance on this chosen career path, Xiaoyu enrolled in the FSRM program at Rutgers, because it combined training in statistical methods, predictive analytics and financial risk management. “I am confident that, having entered the FSRM program equipped with a solid foundation of mathematics, statistics and finance risk management, I will be well qualified on graduation to work in the financial industry exploiting opportunities for profit while managing risks.”
