On May 18, 2010 we upgraded Sakai to a new version. Below is an overview of the changes and new features.
Announcements
- Can set up RSS feed for announcements
- Option to see full text of all announcements on one page
Assignments
- "Number of resubmissions allowed" has been replaced with "Allow Resubmission." Once selected, you can specify how many resubmissions are allowed and a “Resubmission Accept Until” date
- Submission types are now: Inline and Attachments, Inline Only, Attachments Only, Non-Electronic, Single-Uploaded file only (a student may only upload a single file)
- Users can be notified via e-mail when assignment grades have been posted
- Model answer, private notes, and all purpose items have larger character limits
Calendar
- Ability to specify whether externally subscribed events in other sites are displayed in the My Workspace calendar
Discussion and Private Messages
- Viewing all posts/messages in a Forum will mark them as "read"
- Most recent activity is displayed at the top of the thread, and is sorted by date
- Users may receive e-mail notifications for updates and new posts in Forums, as well as reply to a Forum or post by e-mail
Drop Box
- Recent changes now highlighted with a star
- Option for instructor to determine whether they see upload notification emails from students
Profile
- Ability to integrate a personal Twitter account with status updates on Sakai. When integrated, the Sakai profile status will update on your Twitter timeline
Site Info
- Ability to download and print a list of site participants
- Role descriptions at bottom of page
- View by Groups option above participant list when you have Sections/Groups in your site
User Info
- “User Info” now called “Roster”
Tests & Quizzes
- New drop down menu replaces links for Duplicating, Exporting, Publishing, Removing, Editing, or Previewing assessments
- For assessments that allow multiple submissions, instructors and students can now view all submissions and scores
- Instructors can add attachments to score/feedback pages
- Instructors can send e-mail notification when publishing/republishing assessments
- Instructors can e-mail students directly within assessments
- When grading assessments, a prompt notifies instructors that a student submission is required before they are able to comment on a student's submission
- After retracting an assessment, Instructors may force students to review and resubmit their work (students will see a notification 'Assessment was updated. You must resubmit for credit')
